Prayer Requests For Ps Rey’s Ministry:

  • HONG KONG: For the 4 disciple-making communities that are part of theWord Disciplemaking Community’s network in Hong Kong, that God will bless our DMM trainings and bring multiplication. Please also pray for our follow-up with the 49 people who accepted Christ during our recent anniversary celebration. Pray for 35 disciples who were baptized in our Hong Kong groups in 2025.
  • PHILIPPINES: Praise the Lord for several extended mission trips to the Philippines in 2025 where Ps. Rey saw many trained as disciple makers, and many also were baptized. Please pray that these will start to regenerate and multiply–Amen!
  • MACAO: There’s now one Discover & Obey Bible Study in the city with 5 regular attendees that normally meets in the park. Pray for 2 who were recently baptized. Thank God for answering our prayer–we now have a cafe that has made a space available for us in bad weather. But pray for a more permanent location to meet.
  • JAPAN: Praise the Lord for a new church started in Yokosuka, Japan. Please pray that the 25 disciples (10 who have been recently baptized) will grow and multiply–Amen!

Dear Praying Friends, 

As we mentioned in a summertime City Disciple newsletter, we want to spend more time sharing highlights from various DMM practitioners in the Hong Kong DMM network. We believe this will: 1) greatly encourage our readers to hear the concrete things God is doing, 2) help our prayer partners to put “faces” to  our updates and prayer requests, and 3) hopefully spur our partners on to grow in their own Disciple Making efforts as well.  Thank God, there’s a lot of great updates that can be shared!
We recently had a chance to sit with Pastor Rey Abejero and get updated about the fruits of his DMM ministry for 2025. Pastor Rey and his wife Evelyn are the founders of theWord Disciple Making Community Hong Kong (yes, it’s “theWord”, to emphasize the centrality of the Word!). They are also pillars of the wider Hong Kong DMM Network. They are leading not only by the example of consistent weekly Gospel outreach and DMM fruitfulness, but also by demonstrating a true lifestyle of prayer. Many times we have been deeply encouraged and challenged to see Ps. Rey’s attendance and heartfelt participation in the monthly DMM All Night and All Day Prayer meetings, in spite of his already very packed schedule. He is such an example to us of faithfulness and perserverance! No doubt a deep commitment to prayer is a key to the fruitfulness they are seeing in Hong Kong and also other locations across Asia. We truly count ourselves blessed to know and partner with them and share the updates joyfully with you now. Let’s get into it!

DMM Ministry Highlight:
Pastor Rey & theWord Disciple Making Community

Grateful

The first thing Pastor Rey shared with us was how grateful he is to God, and also to the local churches who have partnered with him.  Ps Rey is an example of the the kind of faithfulness that Apostle Paul modelled when he said he knew how to be content in plenty or in want. Many of Ps. Rey’s groups have been started and still meet in public parks where space is free. As these groups grow and need a more stable location to grow, God has created partnerships with local churches who have lent their indoor facilities. Praise God for His provision!He also shared how grateful he is to God for theWord Disciple Making Community HK’s recent 3rd anniversary celebration. They were praying for 200 people to join the event (including about 100 regular attendees). But over 250 people came–and 49 people came forward to receive Jesus! Glory to God! They gave all 49 of them a new Bible, and their network is following up with these new believers.

DMM Churches in Hong Kong

Pastor Rey has been praying for many years for a disciple-making movement to really take place in Hong Kong. He sees the larger “theWord DMC” weekly church gatherings as his main “access ministry”, while the ultimate goal is actually to plug people into the smaller Discovery groups, where the real discipling takes place. Pastor Rey calls these “DOBS” groups, meaning “Discover & Obey Bible Study”. Discipleship happens not only by studying the Bible, but also by obeying what the Holy Spirit says through the Bible. The smaller group size also allows more time for each person to share and reflect on what God is doing in their own lives.

There are now 4 church communities that have been planted in Hong Kong.:

  • One church consists of 1 small group with 5-10 people that meet in Exchange Square (in front of the IFC).
  • Two other churches have 8 groups each, with a total of around 30 people each.
  • And one church has 10 groups with around 40 people total. This church also has a relationship with an employment agency that hires foreign domestic helpers. They have been growing quickly with many Filipino workers coming to know Christ and being baptized!

In total there have been 35 new disciples baptized in Ps. Rey’s Hong Kong DMM communities in 2025. Praise the Lord!

Testimony from Philippines

In 2025, Ps. Rey took several extended trips to the Philippines, where he strengthened the groups planted on previous trips, trained people in Disciple Making Movement methodology, started new groups, and shared the gospel with the lost.

There are now many groups throughout the Philippines connected with theWord DMC. Some of the locations are: Pudtol, Mindanao, San Pedro, Nuro Upi, and Tarragona.

During his mission trips to the Philippines in 2025, they saw 75 disciples baptized. Isn’t God good!

Testimony from Japan

On May 28, Pastor Rey flew to Japan for a 5-day ministry trip to do DMM training. While he was there, a woman joined and asked Pastor Rey to bless her house. But Pastor Rey told her he couldn’t bless the house unless she gave up her idols. She was eventually persuaded to get rid of them, and the next day, she asked to be baptized!

Now this woman has become a “Person of Peace” and a core member of a new church community that gathers in Yokosuka, Japan. Around 25 disciples come together now in this community and 10 have been baptized!
